A Brief History

Bundoora Presbyterian Church (BPC) has been meeting for almost 13 years now. Bundoora Presbyterian Church started as a church plant of the Eltham Presbyterian Church initially with just a small group of people who were committed to faithfully meeting as God's people and taking the gospel to others. Seeing a need to minister to students in the Northern suburbs, Bundoora Presbyterian Church was planted as a deliberate ministry near LaTrobe University. So in March 1993 with about 20 people, Bundoora Presbyterian Church started as a "Home Mission Station" by the Presbyterian Church of Victoria.

Our first pastor was Scott Lindsay, who planted and pastored Bundoora Presbyterian Church for 6 years. As well as planting a new church, Scott spent part of his time working as Chaplain at the university. This link with the university ministry continues strongly today through Bundoora Presbyterian Church's relationship with the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (AFES). Students from the AFES groups at RMIT and LaTrobe universities make up a large part of our congregation.

In time and by God's grace since the start of our congregation, Bundoora Presbyterian Church has grown in numbers and in maturity in Christ. At present we now have two congregations (which meet on Sunday at 10am and 6pm) with students, young workers and families who are members of our congregations. As well as meeting together on Sundays, there are diverse ministries that happen during the week from playgroups, home group bible studies, women's bible studies, international student bible studies and an over 50s group.

Being committed to meeting together (but not having our own building) means that we have been flexible from the start. We started meeting at the Macleod YMCA and having outgrown that venue we moved our meetings to the Greenwood Secondary College. Meeting there for several years we also outgrew this building and moved to nearby Noorong Community Hall (pictured) where we currently meet on Sundays. Our growing numbers have meant that in 2004 (to confirm) we started a new congregation that meets at 6pm in the evenings. Bundoora Presbyterian Church is a church that is committed not to buildings but to meeting together as God's people!
